People of Pittsburgh II: The constellationist

“Loved the ideas—that we are all part of other people’s stories, that magical people exist all around us.”

Audience member

The Constellationist is the second show in a unique theatrical series that tells the stories of ordinary, extraordinary Pittsburgers.

People of Pittsburgh II: The Constellationist is an audio/performance theatrical experience that celebrates the life of an extraordinary ordinary Pittsburgher: Mary Helen Carey. The show was written by Molly Rice in collaboration with a community devising ensemble made up of professional performers and Mary’s own neighbors, friends and family members— including her 12-year-old niece.

This production, conceived by Rice and Christine Bethea, involved a large team of artists, some of whom knew Mary personally— including Deavron Dailey and Cheryl Cappezzuti. It had its first showing at Attack Theater Studios in 2023.

Audience member

“Your ability to tell Mary’s story and hit so many emotions, joy, sadness, love, anger and more—that was beautiful.”

Audience member

“I’m leaving full and joyful, and also sober in some ways and really thoughtful. I have chills.”
